Improved Vectors for In Vivo Gene Therapy Engineered



November 20th, 1995

Cell Genesys, Inc., Foster City, California, reported that a team of its scientists has successfully engineered novel adenoviral vectors which are capable of long term gene expression and which can avoid the toxicities seen with earlier versions of these vectors described by others.

Adenoviral vectors are currently being used to deliver genes directly to patients as a form of in vivo gene therapy for such life threatening diseases as cystic fibrosis and cancer. The work was carried out by a team of scientists at Cell Genesys led by Mitchell Finer, Ph.D. and was reported at the Fourth International Conference on Gene Therapy of Cancer in San Diego, California.
