Universal HBV Vaccination Needed in Endemic Areas

Universal hepatitis B vaccination in infancy and childhood would drastically reduce the incidence of chronic liver disease, cirrhosis and primary liver cancer in areas with a high prevalence of hepatitis B infection, according to a report from China.

The report was presented at the VII International Symposium on Viral Hepatitis, held January 25-27, 1996 in Madrid, Spain.

Researcher Wang Shu-Sheng and colleagues conducted a population-based survey in Long An County, South China to evaluate the long-term efficacy of universal infant and childhood vaccination.
