According to an abstract submitted by the author to the 3rd Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, held January 28 - February 1, 1996, in Washington, DC, "The discovery of Kaposi's Sarcoma Associated Virus (KSHV or HHV-8) by Chang and her colleagues provides the best candidate to date for a transmissible, etiologic agent of Kaposi's Sarcoma (KS). We have shown that HHV-8 is present in all epidemiologic types of KS (Boshoff, C. et al., The Lancet, 345:1043-1044, 1995), that the virus is present in both endothelial cells and spindle cells of KS nodules (Boshoff, C. et al., Nature Medicine, 1:1274-1278, 1995), and that detection of HHV-8 in the blood is predictive of...
