Transfer of TNF(alpha) Gene Restores Apoptotic Program

TNF(alpha) is a monocyte-derived cytotoxin with contrasting effects. It protects against infection and can induce tumor regression, but it also can cause cachexia, septic shock, and inflammatory disease. Findings suggest that this cytokine has potential as an anticancer agent, but its clinical use has been limited by toxic effects associated with systemic administration.
