Metastatic Melanoma Vaccine Entered in National Clinical Trials

A tumor vaccine targeting advanced metastatic melanoma has moved into national clinical trials.

Researchers made the announced at the 87th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), held in Washington, D.C., April 20-24, 1996.

Based on promising results in earlier studies, researchers have launched a multicenter clinical trial to determine the vaccine's therapeutic potential in patients with advanced melanoma. Patients in this group are at high risk, with a 50- to 80-percent likelihood for cancer recurrence, and effective treatments are few.
