Orphan Drug Designation Received

NeoPharm, Inc., Lake Forest, Illinois, announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has designated its drug, Idoxuridinc (IUdR), as an Orphan Drug for use in treatment of soft-tissue sarcomas, rare cancers of the soft connective tissues that support and surround the skeletal structure and major organs of the body.

Soft-tissue Sarcoma is an aggressive malignant tumor that can affect almost any organ. In many cases, the tumor cannot be surgically removed satisfactorily.

Human clinical trials have shown that therapy with a combination of IUdR and radiation may render otherwise unresectable tumors operable. The American Cancer Society estimates...
