Production of IL-10 Localized to Melanoma Cells, Not Lymphocytes

By localizing the production of IL-10 to melanoma cells, rather than in tumor infiltrating lymphocytes as previously suspected, novel avenues for potential therapeutic modalities may be created.

IL-10 is known to play an important physiological role in the negative regulation of cell-mediated immune responses. T. Sato presented an important discovery concerning the production of this protein at the 87th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, held April 20-24, 1996, in Washington, DC.
