Parathyroid Hormone-Related Peptide Linked to Hematologic Malignancies

Canadian clinicians report that parathyroid hormone-related peptide appears to be "... a pathogenetic factor in the development of hypercalcemia in hematologic malignancies, notably in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma," (Am J Med 1996;100:406-411).

The peptide mediates hypercalcemia, which contributes to the development of certain hematologic cancers. That's according to Dr. Richard Kremer and associates at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They compared parathyroid hormone-related peptide concentrations in 30 normal subjects and in 76 patients with either non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, multiple myeloma, or Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia.
