Adjuvant Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer: Adverse Effects Transient

Women who undergo adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer report measurable adverse effects on the quality of life, according to a report in the Lancet 1996;347:1279-1284.

However, these effects are "... transient and less substantial than the process of adap[ta]tion to the disease," according to researchers with the International Breast Cancer Study Group.

Dr. Christoph Hurny of Bern, Switzerland, and colleagues dispensed a quality-of-life questionnaire to women with node-positive operable breast cancer.
