In a study published in the May 15, 1996, issue of Cancer, Dr. Peter L. Stern and colleagues measured p53 levels in 200 gastric carcinoma samples and then correlated p53 expression and the course of clinical disease. Stern reported that 42.5 percent of gastric carcinomas expressed elevated levels of p53 and that "... p53 accumulation positivity correlated with increasing tumor stage and size."
