IGF-II Activation May Be Involved in HCV Related HCC

The activation of insulin-like growth factor II gene expression from adult and fetal promoters may play a role in the premalignant proliferation observed in hepatitis C virus-related chronic liver disease.

This was the finding of researcher Gerardo Narone and colleagues from Italy's University of Napoli ("Activation of Fetal Promoters of Insulin-like Growth Factor II in HCV Related Chronic Hepatitis, Cirrhosis, and Hepatocellular Carcinoma," Hepatology, June 1996; 23(6):1304-1312).
