"Induction of Apoptosis by Diethylstilbestrol in Hormone-Insensitive Prostate Cancer Cells."

According to the authors' abstract of an article published in Journal of the National Cancer Institute, "Background: Diethylstilbestrol (DES) and diethylstilbestrol diphosphate (DESdP) are effective agents for the treatment of advanced prostate cancers. Tumor-inhibiting effects of DES and DESdP are presumed secondary to suppression of androgen production in vivo. Little is known, however, about the direct cellular mechanisms of the tumor inhibition.
