Caucasian Women May Have Elevated Cancer Risk Following Induced Abortion

Slight evidence exists of an increased risk of breast cancer among Caucasian women following an induced abortion.

Researchers reported the data in the August 15, 1996, issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology (Am J Epidemiol 1996; 144:373-380). Janet R. Daling, Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center and the University of Washington, Seattle, and colleagues studied Caucasian women under the age of 45 who were diagnosed with breast cancer between 1990 and 1992.

The researchers interviewed 1,302 women from metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, Seattle, Washington/Puget Sound, and five counties in New Jersey. Control subjects were chosen by random digit...
