Screening and Education Lacking for Asian Refugee Women

The healthcare system in the Chicago, Illinois, area has been sorely remiss in providing breast and cervical cancer screening and education aimed specifically at the increasing number of Southeast Asian women who have immigrated.

The finding comes from a breast and cervical cancer screening study that was part of a project to enhance the health status of refugee and immigrant women. The study was a collaborative effort by researchers from Northwestern University Medical School, the Chicago Institute on Urban Poverty/Heartland Alliance and other community agencies in the city.
