Cancer Treatment Identifies Optimal Survival Rates

In an encouraging breakthrough for lung cancer treatment, Dr. Robert Dillman, Hoag Cancer Center, Newport Beach, California, has led a seven-year study that supports the usage of a treatment option that dramatically boosts survival rates for many patients.

The study, featured in the September 4, 1996, edition of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI), is receiving widespread national recognition. Dillman's trial, which involved patients with local and regionally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer, shows the benefits of treating the disease with chemotherapy followed by radiation therapy, as opposed to radiation therapy alone.
