Sestamibi Agent Shows Promise as Cancer Diagnostic Aid

Results from two multi-center trials with Tc-99m Sestamibi indicated that this radiopharmaceutical demonstrates high diagnostic accuracy for the detection of breast malignancy in patients with suspected breast cancer.

The results of the trials were presented at the 82nd Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), held in Chicago, Illinois, December 1-5, 1996. The study showed sestamibi breast imaging may be a useful adjunctive tool for diagnosing breast cancer in difficult-to-image patients and patients with inconclusive mammograms.
