Utah's Cancer Death Rate Expected To Be Lowest in Nation

Before 1997 draws to a close, 126 of every 100,000 Utah residents will have died from some form of cancer, the lowest rate in the nation, the American Cancer Society (ACS) predicts.

Lung and prostate cancer will be the leading killers among the 2,400 Utah residents who succumb to the disease in 1997.

Lung cancer will lead with 460 patients, followed by prostate cancer at 240 patients, the group estimated.

The nation's highest predicted cancer death rate was for the District of Columbia at 221 per 100,000 people. The national average is 173.
