Researcher Domenico Sansonno and colleagues demonstrated that hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related proteins in the nonmalignant condition hyperplastic reactive lymphadenopathy (HRL) indicates that HCV infection precedes neoplastic transformation. They reported their study in the December 15, 1996, issue of Blood ("Detection and Distribution of HCV Related Proteins in Lymph Nodes of Patients with Type II Mixed Cryoglobulinemia and Neoplastic or Non-Neoplastic Lymphoproliferation," Blood, December 15, 1996;88(12):4638-4645).
