Genotype 1b Associated with Increased HCC Risk

People infected with hepatitis C virus genotype 1b may be at greater risk of hepatocellular carcinoma than those infected with other genotypes, according to a report from Rochester, Minnesota's Mayo Clinic.

Infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1b has been reported to be associated with more severe liver disease and an unfavorable outcome.

"A strong association between HCV and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been established since the introduction of serological assays for the detection of HCV infection," researcher Nizar N.
