Approval Announced To Collaborate on Anti-Cancer Compounds

Pharmacyclics, Inc., Sunnyvale, California, announced that the Decision Network Committee of the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI), has voted unanimously to support additional clinical trials for two products developed by Pharmacyclics based on the texaphyrin technology: gadolinium texaphyrin (Gd-Tex) and lutetium texaphyrin (Lu-Tex).

The company and the NCI have been in the process of structuring a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) in which the NCI intends to sponsor multiple clinical trials evaluating Gd-Tex, a radiation sensitizer (also shown to be potentially useful as a chemosensitizer), and Lu-Tex, a photosensitizer, in several types of...
