According to an abstract submitted by the author to the Ninth Symposium on HIV Infection entitled From Virology ... To Therapy, held March 6-8, 1997, in Toulon, France, "The long unique region of KSHV has recently been mapped and sequenced. The genome is similar to that of other gamma-herpesviruses although major differences are also apparent. KSHV has a long unique coding region (ca. 140 kb) flanked by multiple high G:C terminal repeat units. While conserved gene blocks containing structural protein and metabolic enzyme genes homologous to those found in herpesvirus saimiri and Epstein-Barr virus genomes are present in KSHV, divergent regions contain a number of homologs to human...
