According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 97th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held May 4-8, 1997, in Miami Beach, Florida, "Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a well-recognized cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and studies have suggested that genotype may play an important role. The aim of this study was to evaluate the genotype distribution in patients with HCV-associated to HCC. We tested the serum of 41 patients diagnosed of HCC. Serological analysis included study of HCV antibody and the HCV-RNA was detected by reverse transcription-nested PCR.
