Study Suggests Some Tumors May Be Spread By Sex

A new study finding a tumor protein not made by human cells has raised suspicions that some cancers of the breast and female reproductive system may be triggered by a virus and spread sexually.

Viruses are known to cause other types of cancer. The sexually transmitted papilloma virus leads to cervical cancer. A virus causes breast cancer in mice, so scientists have long suspected the same could be true in humans. But evidence has been elusive.
