Guidelines for Cancer Screening and Surveillance Released

With new revised guidelines released at the world's largest meeting of digestive disease experts, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has thrown its hat into a growing ring of healthcare organizations renewing the call for periodic screening of Americans for colorectal cancer (CRC) - and for federal funding of the benefit under the Medicare program. As with other recommendations released earlier by gastroenterological groups, the ACS guidelines conclude that regular screening of men and women aged 50 and older for the second-leading cancer killer would significantly reduce the number of deaths associated with the disease.
