Companies Form Joint Venture To Develop Anti-Leukemia Compound

ILEX Oncology, Inc., San Antonio, Texas, and LeukoSite Inc., Cambridge, Massachusetts, announced they have formed a joint venture to develop Campath-1H, a monoclonal antibody under development for the treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). CLL, the most prevalent form of adult leukemia in Western countries, affects approximately 60,000 adults in the U.S. and a comparable number in Europe. CLL is a malignant disorder characterized by an accumulation of abnormal lymphocytes (white blood cells) in the body. Over time, these lymphocytes spread to the tissues causing lymph node, liver, and spleen enlargement and bone marrow dysfunction. ...
