"Generation of Cytokine Activated Antigen Specific and Nonspecific Antitumor Effector Cells from Human Umbilical Cord Blood."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 88th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, held April 12-16, 1997, in San Diego, California, "We have studied umbilical cord blood cells (UCBC) from 24 different healthy newborns for their natural killer (NK), lymphokine activated killer (LAK) and antigen specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) cell mediated cytotoxicity. In addition, the immunophenotypes, response to mitogens, cytokine secretion patterns of UCBC before, during and after activation was determined.
