In 1996, two Troutdale teen-agers who lived a half-mile apart were diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma. A third teen in the same area was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, another type of bone cancer.
"There do not appear to be any links in terms of exposures and risk factors among the Troutdale cases," said Michael Heumann, Oregon Health Division epidemiologist.
The investigation showed the rate of cases of the rare disease in Oregonians under the age of 20 is similar to rates nationally, Heumann said. ...
