Complications of local tumor invasion, especially progressive bile duct stenosis, generally determine the morbidity and mortality in patients with bile duct cancer (BDC). Because the site of stenosis can be routinely accessed during stent placement, this suggests the possibility of achieving BDC tumor control by local gene therapy.
