According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 1st National AIDS Malignancy Conference, held April 28-30, 1997, in Bethesda, Maryland, "Background: Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is the most common malignancy associated with HIV infection. Treatment options are limited by the immunocompromised status of these patients. Chemotherapy is not well-tolerated in this group of individuals. Retinoids have been shown to be effective treatment for several skin diseases, including Kaposi's sarcoma.
