Automated Blood Test for Cancer Launched

Biomira Inc., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, confirmed that Chiron Diagnostics, a business unit of Chiron Corp. has announced the U.S. launch of ACS:180 BR, its automated blood test for the breast cancer associated antigen CA 27.29.

The test, incorporating the monoclonal antibody B27.29 licensed from Biomira, is now available in the United States to physicians to monitor their patients with metastatic breast cancer.

Biomira launched its Truquant BR RIA blood test kit for the detection of recurrent breast cancer in the U.S. in 1997, after a three-year clinical trial in patients previously treated for Stage II or Stage III breast cancer. The results,...
