The local delivery of certain cytokines to the site of a tumor vaccine inoculum results in altered tumorigenicity and up-regulated host immunity to tumor antigens. Most recent approaches have used tumor cells modified to secrete the cytokine. These approaches require an adequate supply of tumor cells which must be supplied either autologously or by a tumor cell line, which is not always feasible in every situation.
