Cancer Vaccine from IL-18 Transfected Tumor Cells

Interleukin 18 (IL-18) gene transfected tumor cells show promise as a cancer vaccine.

IL-18, also know as interferon-gamma-inducing factor (IGIF), is a cytokine which shares similarities with IL-12, e.g., inducing interferon (IFN)-gamma production in Th1 cells. It is a more potent IFN-gamma inducer than IL-12 and could be synergistic with IL-12 to further enhance IFN-gamma production, suggested researchers Long He et al., from the Second Military Medical University, Shanghai, China, and the Japanese Foundation of Cancer Research, Tokyo, Japan.
