NTP Advisory Group Makes Recommendations for Carcinogens Report

An advisory group reviewing data on substances proposed for the federal government's "Report on Carcinogens, Ninth Edition," on October 30, 1997 recommended that ultraviolet light, whether from sunlight or an artificial source such as tanning booths and tanning beds, be listed as "known to be a human carcinogen."

The review panel of the National Toxicology Program's (NTP) Board of Scientific Counselors approved the listing unanimously. This recommendation had been approved already in two earlier scientific reviews.
