Owens Corning Wants Reimbursement for Cancer Costs

Owens Corning, Toledo, Ohio, is suing the tobacco industry to recover what they say is cigarette makers' share for the cost of claims in asbestos-related lung cancer in smokers, the company announced. Owens Corning and Fibreboard Corp. filed suit in Alameda County Superior Court against the American Tobacco Co., R.J. Reynolds, BAT Industries, Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp., Philip Morris, the Liggett Group, and Lorillard Tobacco Co. The suit claims that asbestos workers who smoked incurred lung cancer, asbestosis, and other diseases at rates far higher than those who did not smoke.
