Worldwide License Agreement Signed for Phase III Cancer Drug

Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH, Ingelheim, Germany, and Vion Pharmaceuticals, Inc., New Haven, Connecticut, jointly announced that the two companies have entered into an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement for the development and marketing of Promycin (porfiromycin), Vion's lead anti-cancer agent.

Promycin, a bioreductive alkylating agent, currently is being investigated in Phase III clinical trials for use in combination with radiation therapy for solid tumors of the head and neck.

Promycin is a therapeutic for hypoxic (oxygen-depleted) cancer cells, which are known to be less susceptible to radiation therapy than other tumor cells. Promycin was...
