Man-made chemicals used in plastics, pesticides and detergents that mimic the action of oestrogen have become associated with a decline in sperm counts and an increase in breast and testicular cancers.
A team of Spanish researchers published a study which showed that Bakelite, which has been used to make plastic products since 1909, has similar effects to oestrogen.
