"Transcriptional Regulation of the TFIIH Transcription-Repair Proteins, XPB and XPD, by the Hepatitis B Virus X Protein."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 89th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, held March 28 - April 1, 1998, in New Orleans, Louisiana, "There is evidence that DNA repair and the associated cell cycle checkpoint mechanisms can be altered by chronic infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). We have found that expression of the HBV protein HBx in liver cells downregulates the transcription of XPB and XPD by 60% and 40%, respectively. This was demonstrated by co-transfection experiments, whereby chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) gene under the control of XPB or XPD promoters was co-expressed with HBx.
