Water Soluble Analogs of Taxol (Paclitaxel) Commercialized

BTG announced that it has signed an exclusive commercialization agreement with Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties, Inc. (VTIP), Blacksburg, Virginia, under which BTG markets the rights to paclitaxel analogs.

Paclitaxel is approved for the treatment of ovarian, breast, and lung cancers and Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), and shows promise for the treatment of a variety of other cancers.

Due to the low water solubility of paclitaxel, researchers have attempted to create water soluble analogs of paclitaxel which retain their anti-cancer activity and are highly stable. Additionally, the development of paclitaxel-resistance in cancer patients undergoing...
