According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 80th Annual Meeting of The Endocrine Society, held June 24-27, 1998, in New Orleans, Louisiana, "It has recently been demonstrated that telomerase, a ribonucleoprotein that synthesizes the telomeric repeats of TTAGGG de novo and adds them to the ends of mammalian chromosomes, may play a pivotal role in the aging process and in the progression of cancer.
