According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 84th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, held November 29 - December 4, 1998, in Chicago, Illinois, "Background: It is uncertain how frequently metastatic lesions to bone from prostate cancer initially involve regions far removed from the primary site. Very little - especially within the past 20 years - has appeared in the literature regarding the distribution of skeletal metastases in prostate cancer. Purpose: We sought to test the hypothesis that distant skeletal metastases from prostate cancer are extremely uncommon in the absence of more proximal metastases. ...
