Defective Maturation of Hemopoietic Progenitors Creates Complications

The defective maturation of hemopoietic progenitor cells causes the defective function of Langerhans cells (LC) in tumor-bearing animals.

T. Ishida and colleagues from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Tennessee, investigated the effect of the presence of tumor in vivo on the ability of LC to take up antigens, migrate to draining lymph nodes, and stimulate primary T cell responses ("Defective Function of Langerhans Cells in Tumor-Bearing Animals is the Result of Defective Maturation from Hemopoietic Progenitors," Journal of Immunology, November 1, 1998;161(9):4842-4851).
