Microscopic Change May Double Risk for Some Women

A large study of women has identified a microscopic change in breast tissue that may double the risk of breast cancer in some women. This study will help doctors evaluate the subsequent breast cancer risk of women with benign breast biopsies and may improve their ability to prevent breast cancer.

Women with a certain microscopic abnormality known as a "radial scar" were twice as likely to get breast cancer, reported researchers from the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
