Transdermal Fentanyl Effective in Children

A recently developed pediatric protocol for the transdermal therapeutic system for fentanyl (TTS-fentanyl) provides safe and effective relief for young cancer patients.

Though well-known as a pain treatment for adults, TTS-fentanyl has not been evaluated in children. The continuous systemic drug delivery provided by TTS-fentanyl, as well as its duration of analgesia, would be beneficial to the pediatric population in whom oral opioid administration is oftentimes difficult, as is vascular access.
