"A Novel New Treatment for Prostate Cancer With a Conditionally Replicating Herpes Simplex-1 Virus, G207."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Annual Meeting of the American Urological Association, held May 1-6, 1999, in Dallas, Texas, "Introduction: We are exploring a novel form of cancer therapy using a modified herpes simplex virus (HSV) vector. G207 is a mutated HSV-1, with deletions of both ICP34.5 genes and insertion of the LacZ gene into the ICP6 gene. This attenuated HSV vector allows for both a direct cytolytic effect of viral infection, as well as the ability to generate additional viral particles to infect additional malignant cells.
