FDA Approves Temodar Drug To Treat Cancer

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it had approved the Schering-Plough Corp. drug Temodar to treat a form of brain cancer.

The FDA said the drug, known generically as temozolomide, could be used to treat patients with brain tumors known as anaplastic astrocytoma who have relapsed following chemotherapy.

"The approval of temozolomide gives patients another option for treatment of their disease when they do not respond to initial treatment with radiation and chemotherapy," the FDA said in a statement announcing the drug's approval.

Temodar's side effects included headaches, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and low blood...
