Mammaglobin Is a Potential Disease Marker

Mammaglobin can be detected in serum from breast cancer patients, as well as in cancer cells present in blood, bone marrow, and lymph nodes.

Corixa Corp., Seattle, Washington, announced that Steven Reed, Ph.D., CSO, presented data on mammaglobin at IBC's conference on immunotherapy for cancer.

Using gene expression analyses, Corixa examined a panel of 25 breast tumors of different stages, along with a variety of normal tissues. Confirmed by quantitative PCR evaluation, mammaglobin expression was observed in the majority of the breast tumors examined, but was absent in non-breast normal tissues.
