According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Sixth International Congress on Hormones and Cancer, held September 5-9, 1999, in Jerusalem, Israel, "Tam antagonizes estrogen-driven cell proliferation in breast cancers; inversely it acts as an estrogen on the uterus. ER regulates gene expression in a cell-specific manner. These properties seem to be implicated in this phenomenon. Whether such properties are relevant to breast cancer cells with different ER profiles was investigated.
