Literature Suggests IFN Delays Liver Cancer in Cirrhotics

by Salynn Boyles, Senior Editor -- Interferon monotherapy appears to delay or prevent hepatocellular cancer in cirrhotic patients with hepatitis B or C infection, but it cannot be recommended for everyone, a report from Canada suggests.

Researchers from Montreal's McGill University concluded there may never be enough data to determine conclusively whether interferon monotherapy is warranted in cirrhotic hepatitis patients.
