Laxatives and Smoking Contribute to Development of Renal Pelvis and Ureter Cancer

Habitual smoking and intake of laxatives pose a significant risk in the development of urothelial cancer (UC), particularly renal pelvis and ureter cancer, according to a recent report by W. Pommer and colleagues.

Since roughly 20,000 new cases of UC and 7,500 deaths from bladder cancer (BC) occur in Germany each year, Pommer et al. sought to determine whether some common habits of this population were contributing to risk of contracting these cancers.
