Complementary Health Practices Much More Widespread than Is Suspected by Doctors

A study published in the February 1, 2000, issue of Cancer reveals that 37% of prostate cancer patients undergoing treatment with conventional therapy also turn to one or more complementary health practices.

Findings suggest, however, that most of these patients do not make their reliance on complementary medicine known to their physicians. Hence, physicians' lack of awareness about their patients' complementary health care habits may be jeopardizing their ability to interpret correctly their patients' responses to conventional therapy.
